I lived in California for several years, and I love the sun. I’m sure in a few months I’ll be begging for a beach vacation, but right now I am totally ready for fall! Westchester is so fun this time of year – beautiful changing leaves, fun fall festivals, farms for pumpkin and apple picking… it’s really the best.
If you’re itching to give your home a few seasonal updates, don’t just grab a few pumpkins and cheesy fake leaves. Here are three tips on how to give your home a little fall refresh, while keeping things elevated and beautiful.
1. Layer in richer textiles.
Swap lightweight throw blankets and pillows for richer fabrics like boucle, velvet, wool, or brushed linen in warm neutrals. I love olive, rust, warm oranges, or a deep chocolate for fall. Here are some of my favorite pillows and blankets for an easy fall swap.

2. Style your fireplace.
Fall is the perfect time to shift the focus to the fireplace. Keep your mantel restrained – layer beautiful pieces of art for an editorial look. If you haven’t upgraded your fireplace screen, there are so many chic options to choose from. For a wood burning fireplace, even your firewood can be kept somewhere chic. To help with the decision fatigue, I’ve rounded up some of my favorites, linked here.
3. Add natural elements.
Swap out the bright, summery floral centerpiece with some greenery. A few large scale arrangements are more luxurious than lots of little decorations. If you don’t want to swap out live plants each week, or have the opposite of a green thumb, there are some great faux plant options. Here are two stems I love – and you can see how they come together in an arrangement.
