I recently wrote a blog post all about where you should splurge during a luxury interior design project – but that leads to the natural follow up question, where should I save?
A beautifully designed home isn’t all about spending big everywhere. It’s about knowing exactly where the investment matters, and where it doesn’t. Here’s where I tell my clients to hold back, so their budget can work harder in the places that count.
Save on decorative accessories.
While I never recommend skipping styling (it totally finishes the space and pulls it all together!), you don’t need to spend big to have a big impact. Picture frames, coffee table books, trays, and other tabletop styling accessories are meant to be layered, changed, and refreshed as life goes on. This is where you can have some fun, add some personality, and save a little to redirect elsewhere in your project.

Save on art in low traffic rooms.
Statement art in your entryway, living rooms, or primary bedroom are worth the splurge, but what about a powder room, hallway, or guest bedroom? There are plenty of ways to incorporate art in these spaces, without spending a lot. Source downloadable prints on Etsy, find frames that work with your budget, and move that money around towards a big, beautiful statement piece in your formal living room!
Save on accents in a child’s room.
While I still think it’s important to invest in some quality furniture in a kids room (I have a blog post featuring some of my favorite pieces that will last from childhood through adulthood, linked here), fun, affordable accents are the perfect way to keep a room feeling fresh throughout the inevitable changes your child will go through from toddlerhood to the teen years.

Getting this balance right is exactly what makes a home feel luxurious, while still being thoughtful about putting your budget towards the important things. If you’d like help figuring out where your own budget should go, I’d love to talk it through with you. Schedule a discovery call with me on my website, and let’s start designing.
